“Once the women finish the program, I want them to pay it forward.”
“She also plans to not only train them to be manicurists and get them prepared for the state exams needed to get licensed, but also to offer business courses on everything from credit to taxes.”
The Nail and Skin Bar Institute was founded by Yolanda Johnson. The lack of available women-centered community re-entry programs and resources, motivated Yolanda to take action and design a program exclusively for women.
The primary goal of TNSBI is to bridge the gap between prison release and community re-entry for women.
Yolanda has made it her mission to "help women redirect their lives with dignity and independence after prison." TNSBI offers first- time non violent felony offenders the opportunity for a fresh start.
Participants will complete an 8 month blended program, designed to prepare them for an exciting career in the demanding field of Cosmetology as a licensed manicurist. This new skill will give participants an opportunity to successfully re-enter their communities with immediate and unlimited earning potential.
Yolanda is also the owner of the thriving Nail and Skin Bar, located in the heart of Memphis.
