CHANGE THE NARRATIVE.

According to the Prison Policy Initiative, 600,000 people make the transition from prison back into their communities each year and the unemployment rate is five times higher than for the general population.

For Black women, it is even higher.

A Prison Policy Initiative 2018 analysis showed that Black women who are former felons have an unemployment rate of 43.6% compared to 35.2% for Black men, 23.2% for white women and 18.4% for white men.

Tennessee ranks as one of the worst states for former felons to find jobs once they are released from prison, according to an analysis by Zippia.com, a job resource website.
